Plumber Broadmeadow

Broadmeadow sits beside Waratah, and Waratah Plumbing Co takes its plumber calls on the same run, starting with the cracked clay sewers and soggy floodplain drainage under the old railway cottages. Hot water, gas fitting and after-hours emergencies are covered too, and you approve the price before we start.

Low Ground and Older Lines

Wet ground underneath

This suburb spreads across the Styx Creek floodplain, so the soil stays sodden below the surface and drainage behaves worse than the pipework alone would suggest. The creeks became open channels generations ago, and their capacity runs out whenever a big east coast low arrives; the 2007 Pasha Bulker flood showed exactly what that looks like. When a yard here holds water after rain, the floodplain is usually part of the story.

Cottage stock, cottage pipework

Broadmeadow took shape in the 1880s beside the railway, so the core near the racecourse is weatherboard and brick workers' housing. Two faults repeat in that stock: rusting galvanised supply pipes that choke tap pressure and tint the water, and brittle clay sewers on the Darling Street side and along Griffiths Road that crack and invite roots in. Many of those houses also still run storage tanks that are due for renewal.

The Work This Run Covers

Plumber feeding a drain camera into a pit at a commercial unit

Blocked drains

Cleared and checked with the camera, for the old clay sewers under the weatherboard cottages near the racecourse

Plumber finishing a continuous-flow gas hot water install

Hot water

Repairs, replacements and installs, from a tired storage tank in an older cottage to a compact unit in the newer townhouses

Gas fitter checking an oven connection

Gas fitting

By licensed gas fitters, covering cooktops, ovens, space heaters and bayonet points

Plumber collecting gear from the ute toolbox

Emergency plumbing

After hours and on weekends, for burst galvanised lines, storm overflows and hot water failures late at night

The newer units and townhouses along Lambton Road and Griffiths Road sit on the same wet ground, so their drains and subfloor plumbing get the same scrutiny as the older stock.

Questions from Broadmeadow Households

Do you clear the old clay sewers around the Broadmeadow racecourse?

Yes. The older cottages near Darling Street and the racecourse mostly drain through vitrified clay laid generations back, and those lines crack and let roots in. We clear them with the jetter or eel, then run the camera afterwards so the footage shows the line is open and where the next weak joint sits.

Can you help with a burst pipe at night in Broadmeadow?

Yes, we take after-hours calls, and the ageing galvanised supply pipes in the older weatherboard homes here do burst without warning. Shut the main tap at the meter first, then ring. The after-hours rate applies, and nothing begins until you agree the figure.
